Now, this has to be one of my favourite cakes, but I’m still not quite sure what it is about it that makes it quite so special. Featured in Nigella Lawson’s Feast, it’s not a fancy cake – more one of those cakes that just puts a smile on your face. It doesn’t even noticeably taste of custard, the inclusion just adds a deep vanilla flavour and gives the sponge that warm yellow colour reminiscent of the cakes you remember from childhood. If I had to draw a birthday cake, I’d draw one just like this!  With it’s high cornflour…
